All the excellent nonsense I was happy to endure during JUNE
some cosy winter recommendations to keep you warm in the chill! Imagine if we were that kind of newsletter. Here's some stuff!!!!
Ah June, the month that really says “do you mind being cold? Do you like having a little shiver, you freak? Wanna go outside and go brrrr?”.
It’s cold here in Melbourne - but then I (Patrick) went to Sydney and wore a tshirt the entire weekend because it wasn’t cold there. Ah weather. Stop me now so I don’t keep banging on about it! Weather!
Anyway Bec and I got to hang out this month, we saw Indiana Jones. However, you’ll notice neither of us have recommended that film. Curious! But here’s the things we ARE recommending.
PATRICK RECOMMENDS
Eilish Gilligan’s new single - INVOLVED YOU
Ok, so some of you might know that I have a special relationship with the musician Eilish Gilligan. We live together, own a dog together, and engage in romantic pursuits together. So, yes, I am biased when I say that Eilish is beautiful, the love of my life, and just a swell gal.
BUT. I was also an Eilish Gilligan stan WAY before we started dating. I used to listen to her music on repeat while I worked. So with that in mind, I can say with objectivity that she’s a brilliant musician, and this new album that’s coming out is spectacular and will blow your faces off. I am so proud of her, it’s been literally years of work to get here.
Involved you is the first single and you should listen.
Cry Club’s new album - Spite Will Save Me
I won’t bang on about this because I have an article coming out soon which will say a lot of my thoughts about this brilliant new album in more detail… watch out… I am providing sizzle for the article…
But I am a massive Cry Club fan and this new album is SO good. I also appreciate it because I too am extremely spiteful, and this album draws on aspects of queer wrath, which I am also feeling a LOT of right now.
This is probably my all-time favourite song from them. Go listen!
The Trans Justice Project
The Trans Justice Project is a new organisation started up this year by the very impressive Jackie Mae Turner, and they’ve already been doing some amazing work - you can read the impact report for the first half of the year. It’s so impressive! And so necessary - there’s a concerted attack on trans rights happening in Australia and around the world. The TJP deserve all our support and gratitude for helping work against that!
Right now, they have an open letter in response to that terrible Media Watch segment. Have a read and please sign.
BEC RECOMMENDS. BECCOMENDATION
DEADLOCH
I can’t remember if I’ve recommended Deadloch! Watch Deadloch! I can’t be neutral because it’s made by friends, with friends in it - but I stand by it.
I personally love Broadchurch vibe mysteries and lesbians, and this has both. It really hits it stride in episode 3 when one of the main characters calms down a bit, and then it’s off to the races (sorry I cant stop this horse metaphor).
THE BEAR
Keeping on this animal theme, season 2 of The Bear is out in a few weeks (infuriatingly already out in America), so you have time to catch up on season 1 if you haven’t gotten around to it. It’s a show that features a lot of straight men and often they are yelling (men are so dramatic), but it has great performances and is shot interestingly and is funny often and sweet sometimes and I recommend!
HORSE POLO TONGUE SWALLOW
I’m going to go full hog (is that the saying, it doesn’t feel right) into the animal roundup and include something obnoxious related to myself :)
My girlfriend is a wonderful genius poet and for my birthday she wrote me a poem that took her a very long time and now it’s published and you can read it here.

THANK YOU, ENJOY THESE RECOMMENDATIONS, WE LOVE YOU.
Deadloch is so good!!!
(Spoilers/speculation:::)
I reckon the murderer is James the nightmare forensic examiner – or at least that he's part of a murder duo. That whole thing this last ep about the murderer wanting a "thank you"? James is *always* complaining about not being thanked enough. Also removing tongues is such a forensic examiner thing to do.
