Anti-trans activists have successfully bullied an Australian chemist into removing an example of useful, inclusive language for homosexual and trans parents from their website
Imagine using your one life on this round earth getting triggered over the term "birthing parent".
In exciting news for the saddest people on the planet, a bunch of TERFs led by Youtuber and hero to the anti-vax movement Rukshan Fernando, have implemented a social media pile-on of Terry White Chemist in Australia.
The issue of contention that was so pressing that they actually took the time out of their day to do this? The use of the term “birthing parent” in an infographic for new parents on the important vaccines they need, so their babies don’t get sick and die.
This is an example of really easy inclusive language, making sure that it specifies the situation where someone who has given birth is the recipient of this important information. This includes mothers, trans men who have given birth, and also lesbians - where there are two mothers.
This kind of inclusive language is often about specificity - when two cis lesbians go and get something like IVF, there will be a birthing parent and a non birthing parent. Both are mothers. Therefore, birthing parent specifies which mother needs to be vaccinated. Likewise, trans men who give birth are not mothers. They are the birthing parent, however. Such an easy way to use language in an efficient and useful manner.
Apparently, according to transphobes, this “erases” women, despite easily including them. It doesn’t mean that anyone who wants to call themselves a mother is not allowed to do that.
Terry White’s social media was quickly flooded with anti-trans accounts, most of whom are not even from Australia, many who weren’t even really engaging with the specific term used, and just shouting anti-trans catchphrases, like “what is a woman” and “go woke, go broke”. It’s pretty easy to see that it’s the respect for homosexual and trans parents that’s the issue for them here, the thing that has made them so mad.
There was also a lot of anti-vax sentiment shared, which isn’t really a surprise.
Terry White deleted the original posts and changed the wording to “mother” soon after, but has not released a statement about the change on social media, or after being approached by me for comment.
This kind of anti-trans mob activism is pretty common - we saw another successful example of it when the CEO of the non-functioning anti-trans app Giggle, Sall Grover, complained about the term birthing parent being used on a government form for new parents. Once again, it was a similar and innocuous example of inclusivity.
In this particular case, this transphobic activism has only made it harder for important information to reach trans, gender diverse, and homosexual parents about vaccinations and whooping cough.
I’ve reached out to Terry White for comment, and will update if anything comes through.

Hideous. I know a woman who got her knickers in a knot over 'person who menstruates' because she didn't feel included in that ... So I guess she doesn't identify as a ... person 🥴
