As bad as this pandering is, it could always be worse - Mass Effect 3 released a patch permanently changing their ending in response to fans campaigns (and other games have followed suit). Given we've already seen shows edited to suit censorious markets, we're probably not too far off from editing for fan reasons as well.

thats a great point, and i feeeeeel like there might be an example of this in tv already, and I can't think what it is

Thank you, Patrick; this piece is perfection... I loved SATC. It was perfect and did not need two movie follow-ups and a sequel. I want to see new TV shows with writing as good as SATC, and authentic representation that reflects real people. I do not want cringe sequels written poorly and produced by networks trying to relive something that once was. Rant over

Yeah i think thats a good point - did we really need to drag these characters into the modern world????

IMHO, very few sequels have worked well.

I just don't understand the NEED for Che to have been in AJLT after the Miranda breakup. Are we saying Carrie's bond with Che was so strong as a short lived co worker that she needed to keep her in her life? Insist that she attend the Last Supper literally at Carrie's left hand while Miranda was halfway down the table? Nya has almost nothing to do, LTW gets saddled with a halfhearted pregnancy subplot but Che is the character we need around?

The writers will never accept that the terrible writing and disregard for Miranda's original character led fans to dislike Che from the beginning, and that's their fault!

I agree, and I think it's HUGE sunk cost fallacy - they're now weirdly invested in making Che a thing!!!

Thank youuu for this clear sighted critique!! 🔥 I’m struggling to watch the show haha. I will try to enjoy it from a “it’s so bad it’s good” perspective that you’ve adopted

thank you! out of interest, were you a SATC fan?

Yes and definitely because of the camp and fantastical nature of it. But like you perfectly described, the defensiveness (and fear?) of the new show is really distracting.
